Easyspace announces £3000 competition winner

January 28, 2008

Easyspace has announced the winner of its recent £3000 Custom Web Design “Worst Website” competition.

With over 500 entries received, Easyspace had a tough task narrowing down to four finalists who would be put to public vote for 2 weeks. However, having gone through all entries, often with great amusement at the creative reasoning sent in, four winners were picked. From this final four, www.advertising-calendars.com was voted, by the Easyspace.com users, the website most in need of the prize.

Congratulations to Mr Godding, owner of the winning website. Easyspace is now in contact with Mr Godding to take forward the re-design of the website.

“We contacted Mr Godding late on Monday afternoon to let him know of his win” said Errol Vanderhorst, Sales and Marketing Director for Easyspace.com. “He seemed thrilled at the news and we are delighted to now be able to help him, and hopefully his business, by delivering an extensive website re-design worth up to £3000″

The winner, Mr Godding, added “I am absolutely delighted that my website has been voted the winner of Britain’s ‘Ugliest Website’, and wish to thank everyone who has voted for me!”

The two stage competition ran from 10th December with users firstly invited to send in their websites and their explanations as to why they felt they had the Worst Website. From this first stage, Easyspace selected 4 finalists based on site design and reasoning sent in. Those 4 finalists were then put on a poll on easyspace.com where users were invited to place their votes.

Some of the most popular entries amongst Easyspace staff included:

“My husband designed it and it looks like he did (he is a policeman)!! My website is a crime scene……. “

“In a word… ‘tacky’. My website is tacky; it looks like it was designed by an amateur, and it was. I did it 6 years ago.”

“Because it is bland, stale, uninteresting ,slow, saynothing, donothing, useless.”

“I deserve the web site redesign because my site at the moment is rubbish and I haven’t got a clue how to change it.”

Easyspace kicks off 10th anniversary celebrations with Pele & Maradona Prizes

June 20, 2007

Easyspace’s Ten Best competition offers signed Pele & Maradona Shirts, 10 Best Films, 10 Best Wii Games, 10 Best Books & 10 Best Albums

Easyspace, one of Europe’s largest hosting and managed service companies, has today kicked off its 10th Anniversary celebrations by offering 5 lucky winners the chance to win one of its amazing 10 Best Prizes.

Every day from Monday 16th to Friday 20th of July visitors to Easyspace’s web sites will have the chance to win an Easyspace 10 Best Prize in a free prize draw.

- Monday 16th: Total Film’s 10 Best Films of All Time on DVD

- Tuesday 17th: Rolling Stone’s 10 Best Albums of All Time on CD

- Wednesday 18th: BBC’s The Big Read 10 Best Books of All Time

- Thursday 19th: 10 Best Wii Games

- Friday 20th: Signed Shirts from the Best 10s of all Time - Pele & Maradona

Sarah Haran, Easyspace’s Managing Director, stated: “We wanted to launch our 10th Anniversary celebrations with something that was fun and different. When we started out back in 1997, we were the UK’s first ICANN registrar and our main line of business was domain name management. Over the past decade we have significantly grown our business to include operating our own data centres and managing complex hosting for enterprises, but the domain name was where we started.”

Sarah continued: “We were recently named as one of the world’s Top 10 Domain Registrars and inclusion in this list provided us with the creative catalyst for our competition. The 10 Best/Top 10 theme appeared an appropriate way to recognise both our anniversary year and our origins”.

Phil Worms, Head of Marketing, added: “The biggest challenge for us in creating the promotion was to determine the actual Best 10’s to use. We felt pretty comfortable with the Rolling Stone, Total Film & The BBC lists, but found that the most heated office debate centred on who was the Greatest Footballer to wear the Number 10? Pele or Maradona? In the end we decided that we couldn’t split the two legends, so we managed to procure a signed shirt from each player.”

Sarah added: “We don’t intend to stop with this launch competition; we will be offering promotions, special offers and more competitions throughout our 10th year.”

Entry to the prize draw is completely free and no purchase is necessary.
